50,000-Euro grant will fund the expenses of a one-year fellowship at a European center of excellence
Recipient of the Fellowship will be selected by the ESCRS and announced at the ESCRS Winter Meeting in Athens in February 2019
Vienna, September 22, 2018 – Alcon, the global leader in eye care and a division of Novartis, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), announce the launch of a one-time grant for a young ophthalmologist to support his or her continuous professional training and education. The 50,000 Euro grant will fund a one-year fellowship abroad at a center of excellence in Europe to gain clinical experience in the field of cataract and refractive surgery. All young ophthalmologists who meet the criteria are invited to submit their application by December 1, 2018 for a fellowship commencing during 2019.
“This important grant complements the existing ESCRS young ophthalmologists’ programs and initiatives designed to provide further education and training in the specialist field of cataract and refractive surgery.” said Professor Beatrice Cochener, President of the ESCRS. “This is a unique lifetime opportunity to learn from peers and have an enriching experience in a different clinical environment. The winner will be selected by the ESCRS, based on applicants’ merit.”
“Alcon is committed to supporting ophthalmologists throughout their training. This one time grant is meant to encourage the new generation to observe practice, gain clinical experience and international exposure,” said Ian Bell, Alcon EMEA region President.
Applicants must be a European ophthalmologist in training, 40 years of age or under on the closing date for applications, and have been an ESCRS member for 3 years by the time the grant is awarded. Applications must include a detailed up-to-date CV, a letter of intent of 1-2 pages outlining the motivation and goals of their fellowship, a letter of recommendation from their current Head of Department and a letter of acceptance from the host institution where the fellowship will take place. Applications and queries should be sent to Danielle Maher at [email protected].
