Alcon Highlights Offerings to Drive Practice Efficiency and Excellence at American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery Meeting
Alcon, the global leader in eye care dedicated to helping people see brilliantly, is continuing its commitment to supporting surgeons and their practices by providing innovative services that will help maximize procedure efficiency and patient education. These offerings, featured at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) 2019 annual meeting, include the expanded Activate™ Practice Optimization Program and the launch of the Wanda™ Alcon Inventory Manager radio-frequency identification (RFID) scanner.
“Our work is fueled by a deep understanding of the evolving needs of ophthalmologists,”said Jim Di Filippo, Vice President and General Manager, US Surgical, Alcon. “As a newly-independent company, we remain as dedicated as ever to raising the bar in providing surgeons the right tools and technology to support their practices. From resources to help educate patients to innovations in e-Commerce that can help streamline the inventory process, we are always trying to find new solutions to support our customers.”
Driving Practice Optimization
Activate™ is a customizable practice optimization program focused on Alcon’s advanced technology IOLs (ATIOLs) that equips the ophthalmologists and staff with expert clinical knowledge and patient education resources through the Cataract Refractive Manager (CRM) team. Alcon has recently expanded its CRM team, partnering closely with clinics to increase clinical expertise and optimize patient outcomes.
A survey of pre-surgery cataract patients showed that 90 percent of patients want to know about available options for cataract surgery, but just 24 percent feel knowledgeable about cataract lenses and surgery options.1 The Activate™ Program was created to help address this gap, providing ophthalmology practices with easy-to-use resources and support to be shared and utilized in communications with patients.
Creating Efficiencies with Inventory Management
Further transforming the e-Commerce experience for ophthalmologists and staff, the new Wanda™ Alcon Inventory Manager is designed to make it easier for customers to take advantage of Alcon’s family of IOL products. Wanda™ is an RFID scanner that tracks Alcon IOL inventory, connecting directly to an associated MyAlconStore.com account and simplifying the inventory and ordering process from start to finish.
Among other capabilities, a simple “wave” of Wanda™ can identify what’s missing and what products need to be restocked, manage IOL expirations to help meet The Joint Commission standards*, and minimize order input errors. The goal is to streamline the entire inventory process with Wanda™, freeing up time for the practice to focus on the things that matter most. Wanda™ will be widely available in May.
